Babita

Babita is the Program Sdministrator for ENG. She started her time 6 years ago as a volunteer. ENG provided a scholarship that allowed Babi the opportunity to complete a masters in Social Work and 2years ago we we hired her as our only paid employ of ENG to coordinate all programs across villages and schools here in Nepal. She is amazing with the girls, has such passion for her work, and is a young woman setting a strong example of leadership in a country that does not have many role models of this dynamic for our girls. Babi is from the vIllage of Borang where we will be conducting our safe water project but she now lives in Kathmandu.

Introductions

I want to introduce 5 exceptional young women. These young women are examples of bravery, intelligence, and kindness. If you support ENG you should be extremely proud of the difference you make in each girl’s life through education. Babita, Nima, Dikki, Prakriti & Anju.

Orientation

Today was amazing with the girls. We all learned so much together! They did not know relay games so we played for them to lean the rules and then each of the girls practiced thinking through the steps and providing clear directionss through role-play. We talked about culture, about schedules, about responsibilities, and about life as a Nepali woman. Gosh I love spending time with them and watching them grow and learn. They are brace, strong, and smart!

Preparation for Orientation

Spent last evening with Babi planning an orientation for our college girls today. It takes a LOT of work to pull off a visit to a remote village and build relationships when you can’t use language to communicate much at all. We decided on a train-the-trainer method to mentor our older girls in organizing and leading for team building. I’ll post progress throughout the day. I can’t wait! I have to walk to the tailor to see if we have bean bags and then go meet the girls!!! Can’t wait!!!!

No Walmart

Spent the end of the day searching for supplies to organize relay races in the village during our stay. Hula hoops, cones, crackers, balls, etc. it will be a blast! We actually had to go to a tailor, explain what a bean bag is and talk him into making them with mustard seeds inside!!!! His face was hIlarious as we describe these small “pillows” we needed to play a game. Toys and games are a luxury few kids have here. They are an unnecessary item for survival and most live on the edge. The end of the day was spent determining needs for a volunteer orientation we are conducting tomorrow for the for ENG university level scholarship girls that will travel with us to Borang as interpireters.  I love working through the barriers with Babi.

School Uniforms

We went to the tailor shop that we use for ENG. Those of you that donate a scholarship provide two school uniforms and a coat in addition to tuition for a child. The uniforms for Little Moon School are in progress. These photos are of the shop, the skirts, and the machine they are sewn on.

Double Trouble

Back on the back of a motorcycle with this chick all over Nepal! The pollution is probably the worst it’s ever been, a mask is an absolute must and when it comes off you have a really neat outline of your mask and glasses from the layer of dirt on exposed skin. If you sweat, and its hot, you make mud-magic!
