Alterations

I went just down the road to ask this young woman if she could alter my kurta so. I had seen her seeing in her shop daily as I passed. She spoke no English but was happy to help. You are looking at the entire shop, she is maybe twenty and the little girl is hers. She lives in a tin shed next to the shop. I think she is beautiful. The second photo is her view all day. The little boy is getting water (pani) from a well built into the sidewalk in front of the shop. The alterations meant measuring which drew a crowd for curiosity. Then came the trying on, a bolt of fabric unfolded enough for her to stand and hold up while I changed behind it( with a larger crowd gathering). Everyone waited until the alterations were finished with much discussion and suggestions and assistance. I really like this young woman. She is strong, and capable, and kind.
