Shree Lukla Lower a Secondary Visit

First school visit complete!  All ENG volunteer team members know this place in Everest-often first stop out of Lukla airport. We have 7 scholarship girls here. ENG will help with classroom furniture since much of it is broken and old. They said any amount will make a difference. When I walked in the library they have very few science materials— anyone want to help?

Busy Day

I spent the morning riding across Kathmandu with kumar pricing school furniture for our ENG safe learning spaces. This sounds like a simple enough task but here is entirely different. Every shop only carries very limited items of a certain type of furniture, there is no phone book or googling to determine where to go first, there is negotiating every price ( never what is stated) and after 15 or so furniture shops still little school furniture.  We did however find the plaques we want for each school!

The afternoon was spent in meetings at the university on curriculum development and were very productive.

Early evening Kumar & I spent measuring the safe learning space area and planning for the computer room and science lab that will be there soon thanks to Bryce and Kiri!

Now time to check my NSU classes before getting packed to travel tomorrow…

Beauty for Ashes

I absolutely love this place and all they stand for. Faith, equality, dignity, compassion, and love! Women & children’s lives are changed because of the opportunities provided for a second chance. We went to the work rooms and also purchased items to support the work of the women.  The new space and environment was very cheerful and warm. We left here after a wonderful visit with the amazing Glenda Hauser and went for our first visit to the Women’s fertility clinic NGO, a group that supports and educates girls and women about their bodies, health, and life skills in this hard place.

Patan

Spent the morning in the square at Patan touring the temples and lovely shops. This area is known for iron and copper work. I sat inside a very small space with a silversmith and was so content to watch him work. The craftsmanship was impressive.

Bahandada School Visit

I love this spot on the Annapurna circuit and we had a wonderful reunion and visit here. The teachers and principal were so excited about the safe learning space project. We were able to have the teachers dream of what they would want to teach with and we can actually  make those dreams come true! Their greatest desires were so simple it was humbling…. A doll for the nursery, posters, pencils, markets, a microscope, books. Sari and Emily are making this one possible!

On the Road to Bahandada

We left Borang and headed for Lamjung with us all smelling a bit like the goats and water buffalo but in great spirits. At lunch we stopped along the side of the road for a great meal. We sat under the tree to eat. A group of villagers came down with Tika and khata for a welcome. Beautiful Day.

Mahendra Secondary Visit

We conducted home visits on the way down the mountain to Mahendra Secondary school. We  saw severe poverty on this walk down but such appreciation for ENGs helping their girls go to school. These are the moments I am most proud to be an ENG team member.  The high school received money from the government for a new building and the community is building. Eng will help with tables and chairs and teaching resources and library!!! So humbling to be even a small part of this.
